Trust, Networks, and Knowledge

How trust is necessary for efficient knowledge circulation on networks. We will explore some conditions that makes networks work. Network of humans of course. Internet, the network serves both as an enabling factor and as a model of networks operation. This topic is largely inspired from a podcast interview from Simon Terry available at http://www.theyaminade.com/podcast/episode-6-executive-engagement-in-enterprise-social-networks-work-out-lout-week-with-simon-terry/ More specifically from minute 13′ to 19′. Simon Terry (follow @SimonGTerry) should be present for the chat (6 AM for him), although he is not formally presenting the topic. I borrowed freely from him. We will be using half-agora mode. 4 broad questions followed by 15′ of free form discussion. Some quotes: “Trust is the most sophisticated algorithm that is built into the human brain. We can manage really complex trust relationships with hundreds of people and know who we will work with and who we won’t, we make judgements quickly and evolve those judgements as new things occur. ” Precisely what is at play when we build our PLNs “What you create immediately when you talk about trust, is a personal accountability. That’s not something that is imposed, it’s coming out of me” So according to Simon we are charge of our accountability. How? could we share some experiences and insight here. Later talking about #WOL “I was putting all my IP out on the table everything out on the table for people to do what they thought with it. What I found was incredibly powerful. Everyone respected the fact that I was prepared to share stuff that wasn’t quite right and still needed developed.” This bring us back to last topics of last season on #WOL, transparency. What about privacy and confidentiality? This is often considered as a facilitating knowledge flows. is it part of the trust or just an old practice. A defense against the risk of losing face. … to be continued … PKMChat being about Personal Knowledge Management encompass Knowledge lifecycle in general. Our first chat was about learning, acquiring Knowledge. Our second is about sharing it. Week after weeks we will switch from one end of the lifecycle to another while exploring all the channels that could be used: social, formal, writing, videos. Feel free to suggest topics by tweeting to @pkmchat.
