Deep Work and PKM

WIP Prereadings. Check the full recap for in depth convo: https://recaps.kneaver.com/recaps/pkmchat-deep-work-and-pkm.htm B: Is PKM deep work? I’m less than sure. Does it require deep concentration? I think it’s an occasion to make a difference between the ‘M’ in management and the actual learning or writing, or applying knowledge. I’m reading the book and realized that learning on the job is usually just not deep work. R: AH. Good topic! So my thoughts would be that superficial learning/knowledge acquisition is useful to get things started, but that there does need to be time to sit quietly, without distractions, to dig deeper. So maybe there needs to be a process. Skim the surface, reflect, ask questions to determine whether deeper learning needs to happen or if the superficial knowledge is sufficient, set aside time to research, read, watch videos, etc., and there needs to be reflection time after each of these deeper learning experiences in order to internalize and organize the content. I would add sharing what is learned/acquired with others in this process as well. B: Agreed, two times, two places. I often feel that gaining acquaintance with a new topic obliges me to stay open, relax, so hat connection happens and letting go with early judgment. I’m almost done with Deep Work from Cal Newport, and will add some of my takeaways related to PKM. PKMChat being about Personal Knowledge Management encompass Knowledge lifecycle in general. Our first chat was about learning, acquiring Knowledge. Our second is about sharing it. Week after weeks we will switch from one end of the lifecycle to another while exploring all the channels that could be used: social, formal, writing, videos.
